Meeting Notes - MICS Tinynodes Meeting EPFL - 27. September 2006 ==================================================================== Sensorscope: System Information: - building on Tinynodes and TOS-2.x - custom hardware (weather station) - custom backend (database, web frontend etc.) - dutycycle about 10% - they have still problems with the TinyNodes - no multi-hop routing support working - relatively low sampling rate (once per 30 second) - there seems some possibility to use ideas from Andreas Meiers MAC (developed for Tmotes at ETHZ) - deployment on glacier planned for Feb 2007 on the Pleine-Morte - possibility to engage engineers from HEX Fribourg (Martin Vetterli) - the dependency on HDF wrt. TinyOS 2.0 seems uncritical - but there is a potential long term issue with TinyOS 2.0 in terms of adoption - also Guillermo will be available till 9/2006 only, Gunnar Schäfer will replace - for time synchronization the CSEM approach might be applicable ==================================================================== CommonSense/WaterSense: System Information: - building on Tinynodes and TOS-1.x - sharing backend technology with with Sensorscope - dutycycle about 10% - initially moved from Mica 2 to TinyNodes - took over DB interface from SensorScope - plan to go for TinyOS 2.0 and start to share code with SensorScope - Philippe Cudre Mauroux (group Aberer) currently builds DB interface (but no use of GSN!) - are struggling with a stability problem (debugging, testing) with a single hop data collection application - want to move to a multihop system ASAP - deployment in india using mica2 and TOS-1.x - want to deploy Feb/Mar 2007 ==================================================================== PermaSense: System Information: - building on Tinynodes and TOS-1.x - no software/protocol exchange with other projects - custom hardware built in cooperation with geography partners - custom backend building on Shockfish GPRS solution - protocol dutycycle about 0.5% (2x500msec per 30 mins) - a number of functions realized: GPRS uplink, mutlihop routing, data collection, data compression, time sync, TinyNode modification - all in TinyOS 1.0, migration not envisaged due to time constraints - planned deployment max. 50 nodes (Oct 2006 Jungfraujoch, later in the year 2006 Chamonix/Aiguille du Midi) - will continue deploying in 2007 on a second generation system - Lithium Thionyl batteries rated 7.3Ah - no code distribution (update capability) - several hours testing of sync algorithms - power measurements on system ==================================================================== Ozone Monitoring System Information: - Tinynodes and TOS-1.x - 1 packet per 15 min - mostly standard system, have only custom sensor - would like to have multihop, mutlisink routing - focus on sensor calibration, but specific for ozone sensors - TinyOS 1 at the moment - but interesting to take over SensorScope developments/technology - low duty cycle - solar panel and packaging ==================================================================== Discussion: - Shockfish would be able to provide soon a low power, multihop, multisink algorithm - Roger Meier will circulate information - Smartpark has little potential for synergy, since completely different algorithmic problems - FreeBox is company who can provide good casing solutions - calibration is also done in the env. Monitoring groups (Marc Parlange) - Shockfish identifies the typical phases in development (modify board, initial deployment, production of custom boards, etc.) ==================================================================== Action items: - SensorScope provides access to the code base - Pollution Monitoring checks how to adopt the SensorScope solution - PermaSense evaluates first deployment and reconsiders strategy - Jan opens a TinyNodes discussion space on the WG 2 WIKI - Jan organizes a developer conference in November ==================================================================== Tentative Timeline: Nov 2006 - stable release of TinyOS 2.0 - CommonSense migrates to Sensorscope - first Permasense deployment and experiences Feb 2007 - SensorScope deployment on Glacier - CommonSense deployment in India Apr 2007 - SesnorScope solved time snych issues Jul 2007 - 2nd generation PermaSense solution - first Ozone monitoring soltuion including ozone sensors/routing/packaging
